Executive Director: Tara Michaels joined the Center in November of 2013. She is a graduate of Millersville University where she studied psychology. Tara has extensive experience in human resources, event planning and large scale fundraising. Tara enjoys connecting with the community by increasing awareness and raising funds for the Center. Speech-Language Pathologist: Carrie Vitko obtained her Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in Virginia and her Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist in many settings, including birth to three home-based programs, preschools and day care settings, preschool multiple-disability classrooms, elementary schools, home-bound/medically fragile school-age services, a private-not-for-profit clinic serving both pediatric and adult clients, long term care/skilled nursing homes, rehabilitation hospitals, and a home health and hospice agency. Carrie has also worked as a clinical supervisor, mentoring graduate speech-clinicians who are obtaining treatment hours as a part of earning their Master’s degree. Carrie has been drawn in particular to people with aphasia across her career, and couldn't be happier to have landed at the Aphasia Center. "What an honor." Occupational Therapist: Tina Bailey obtained her Bachelor's degree in Movement and Sports Science from Purdue University and her Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from Eastern Michigan University. She has worked in many settings including acute rehabilitation, outpatient and long-term care. Tina excels at integrating "real-life" mobility, strengthening and balance in a community setting. Our Founder: Robin Petrus is a licensed and Certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Brain Injury Specialist. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Towson University in Maryland. Robin is a long-time member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has worked in both outpatient and hospital settings. The passion for her work stems from childhood memories of a father living with aphasia. Her clients have provided the inspiration for establishing the Aphasia Center. Their unfailing will and determination suggested a need for a place where continued improvement and life enrichment could occur.
